I am writing this message on March 7th. Three months from today, at this very time – 12 noon – we will be gathering on Echo Field for the Alumni Festival. The Festival has really evolved over the last 20 years. At our 5 Year Reunion in 1988, we hauled our own kegs from Paul’s Pit stop up onto Echo and set them up under a wimpy blue sun shelter. We sold reunion mugs for $5 and that was good for refills all day. Someone backed their car up and cranked music from the trunk and it was a party! Ah, the good old days!
Today, the Mount puts on the Festival. There are multiple “official” tents, including one for the Class of ‘83 Headquarters. The Mount Food Service (professionally run by Aramark, not Saga) serves burgers, dogs, chicken, pulled pork and other goodies. Beer, wine and other beverages are at a seperate tent. There’s a real DJ with real equipment. There’s a volleyball pit and toys and a clown for kids. The bottom line is , it’s a really nice event!
I tell you all this to help get you fired up for our reunion. Oh, that’s not enough. Ok, well how about this ….
After the noon to 4 pm Festival on Echo Field, everyone usually migrates to the apartment quads. More tents will be set up behind the Science Building for dinner. You can continue to swap stories and catch up with friends while hanging out in the quad and having something to eat. Before you know it, it will be time to move up to the Terrace for the evening’s special event. Did I mention that The Fabulous Greaseband is coming back to the Mount, too?! The weather is going to be awesome for our weekend, so we’ll be dancing to the oldies under the stars! If you get thirsty, cold beverages will be available. We’re working on getting the beer trucks with the taps that stick out of the sides. Remember them from the Keggers and the Womens’ Picnics?!
These are just some of the highlights for Saturday. On Friday night, we’ll have our Class Reunion Social. If you haven’t been back in a while, the SUB has changed quite a bit. Our social will be held in one of the private dining rooms that opens on to the patio with the water fountain in the front of the remodeled SUB. The Mount Cafe (new Rat) also opens on to the patio. There will be live music and lots of friends. It will be a great way to kick off our weekend!
